Solar teXter

The Solar teXter is a handheld device that harnesses renewable energy to send and receive short text messages. Designed for extreme affordability, it makes wireless communication accessible to everyone from city dwellers to rural farmers. Features include: an ultrasimple interface, a recycled black-and-white LCD screen, nine solar cells, satellite service, recessed side bars to accommodate adjustable straps, a USB port for emergency backup power and multilingual programmability.

I contributed to the conceptual design that was a finalist in the Metropolis 2010 Next Generation Design Competition; it was published in Metropolis Magazine and featured at the 22nd annual ICFF event in New York, New York.
